Duane Hanson's portrayal of the real ‘American Dream’

Hanson , the American artist/sculptor who was best known for his lifelike sculptures of ordinary American people.  His sculptures were casted from live models, then painted in great detail and finished with hair, clothing, and accessories.  Hanson's work is far beyond a simple form of extreme realism,  in fact,  these gloomy eyed figures portait the artist's deep concerns about the complex social, cultural, and political issues in contemporary American society.

Everyone deserves a second chance...

Although I did appreciate Damien Hirst's early works, I grown to become somewhat resentful of the immensely profitable corporate empire he built following his success.  Now, after watching Noel Fielding’s Chanel 4’s exclusive preview on Hirst’s first major retrospective in Tate Modern, I must confess that I’m rather looking forward to visit the exhibition with an open mind…

Cem Karaca - Turkey's answer to Frank Zappa

Cem Karaca, was born on April 5, 1945. He began his career in 1967 as a singer in a band called 'Apaslar'; his popularity reached its peak with his fusion of traditional Anatolian rhythms with elements of contemporary rock.

It was not only his dark bass voice that won millions of fans in Turkey but also his political message, in both songs and statements, which grew stronger during political unrest in Turkey in the late 1970's...
